Frank Dekkers (1961) schildert landschappen: bosgezichten, rivierlandschappen en veengebieden. In heftige, expressionistische streken zet hij zijn schilderijen op. Roestige herfsttinten en wilde luchten, blauwgrijze winterlandschappen en het zware bladerdek van de zomer, het karakter van de seizoenen wordt feilloos getroffen.
Het liefst werkt Frank Dekkers op locatie in weer en wind, bij wisselend licht. Hij is geboeid door de variatie in kleur, licht en sfeer onder invloed van de tijd van de dag en het spel van de elementen. Het landschap wordt weergegeven in grote kleurvlakken zonder contouren, zonder details en zonder menselijke aanwezigheid. Toch is het nergens vervreemdend.
Frank Dekkers is in staat zijn beleving van een landschap zodanig te vertalen naar het platte vlak dat het een beeld oplevert dat ons vertrouwd voorkomt. Het lijkt een herinnering aan een landschap dat we eens gezien en ervaren hebben.

Frank Dekkers (1961) paints landscapes: woodlands, river landscapes and peat moor areas. They are robust Dutch landscapes with bowed trees and broad waters flowing leisurely by. He sets up his paintings with fiercely expressionistic strokes. Rusty autumn tints and wild skies, blue-grey winter landscapes and the heavy foliage of the summer, the character of each season is infallibly captured.
He prefers to work on location, whatever the weather, by changing light. He is fascinated by the enormous variations in colour, light and atmosphere under the influence of the time of day and the changing elements. The landscape is captured in huge coloured surfaces, without contours, without details and without any human presence. Frank Dekkers is capable of translating his perception of a landscape to a flat surface in such a way that the image feels familiar, like the memory of a landscape that we have actually seen and experienced.
