De Poolse kunstenaar Lukasz Fruczek (1975) combineert in zijn schilderijen grafische elementen met grote kleurvlakken en een gelaagde reliefachtige verfhuid. Veelal vormen schetsen van mens of dier het startpunt van zijn werk. De voorbereidende tekeningen zijn niet meer dan een aanleiding om verder te zoeken en verdwijnen dikwijls geheel of gedeeltelijk tijdens het proces van het schilderen. Als het oorspronkelijke concept nog herkenbaar is ontleent het schilderij daaraan zijn titel. Schilderijen zonder titel hebben zoveel veranderingen ondergaan dat een benaming afbreuk zou doen aan de gelaagdheid van de betekenis.
Evenals de grafische elementen worden de kleuren op een geordend expressieve wijze toegepast. Doorschemerend achter de vele lagen of prominent aanwezig in grote geometrische vormen zijn zij even bepalend voor het beeld als de lijnen.
Opvallend is het reliefmatige karakter van de doeken. Fruczek gebruikt verschillende technieken in zijn werk. Hij werkt met rol, kwast en paletmes of spuit de verf direct uit de tube op het doek. Hij krast lijnen in de dikke verflagen of gebruikt spuitbus en sjablonen.
Naast Picasso en Matisse vormt het werk van de Amerikaanse abstracte expressionisten als Motherwell, Kline en Pollock een belangrijke inspiratiebron voor Fruczek. In zijn schilderijen zijn de verschillende invloeden geintegreerd tot een volkomen eigen stijl. Een verrassende stijl die getuigt van een grote ambachtelijke vaardigheid en een bijzonder artistiek talent.

The polish artist Lukasz Fruczek (1975) combines graphic elements with large coloured surfaces and a layered relief-like coating of paint in his artwork. Sketches of people or animals are often the point of departure in his work. The preparatory drawings are just a reason to explore further and often disappear completely or partially during the painting process. If the original concept is still recognizable then the title of the painting is adopted from this concept. Paintings with no title have been subject to so many transformations that a name would detract from the stratification of the meaning.
The colours, as well as the graphic elements are applied using a regulated expressive method. Revealed through the many layers or conspicuously present in big geometric shapes they have as much influence on the whole image as the outlines.
The relief-like character of the canvases is striking. Fruczek makes use of various techniques in his work. He works with rollers, brushes and pallet knives or squirts the paint straight onto the canvas from the tube. He scratches outlines into the thick layers of paint or uses spray cans and stencils.
Besides Picasso and Matisse the works of American abstract artists such as Motherwell, Kline en Pollock are important sources of inspiration for Fruczek. The different influences are completely integrated into his own style of painting, an amazing style that attests to enormous traditional skill and exceptional artistic talent.
